Primary Source Marketing & Development Internships

Primary Source in Watertown, Massachusetts promotes history and humanities education by connecting K-12 educators to people and cultures throughout the world. We offer graduate courses, seminars, workshops, and study tours to teachers in the greater Boston area. Our work spans five world regions: Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and the United States. Approximately 1800 teachers participate in our programs annually.

As we celebrate our 20th anniversary, we are working to expand Primary Source’s visibility beyond the education sector and connect with like-minded individuals, organizations, and businesses. We are also increasing our fundraising efforts as we seek to bring global perspectives into classrooms across New England.

We have openings for a marketing and development intern during the fall of 2009. The internship offers exposure to all aspects of a small educational non-profit organization; a friendly and collegial work environment; and opportunities to help promote global education in K-12 schools.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting the administration of marketing & development, including data entry
  • Planning for events, including Primary Source’s 20th Anniversary Gala
  • Attending and participating in marketing & development meetings
  • Researching the effective use of social media to promote Primary Source’s work
  • Supporting the creation of marketing materials
  • Writing tasks
  • Online research

Skills and qualifications:
Interest in global education; effective interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills; attention to detail; ability to manage deadlines; patience; strong writing skills; ability to organize time and materials; experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); flexibility, enthusiasm and a sense of humor. Interns are expected to commit to working approximately 15 hours per week.
